There is nothing that prohibits a SNF from admitting an individual that has tested positive for COVID-19. However, the facility must be able to meet the resident’s needs. This would include an ability to care for the resident based on current assessment and status (i.e., acuity), as well as the ability to maintain any required isolation protocols to keep staff and residents safe. This would include the necessary space, ability to maintain isolation precautions, as well as sufficient personal protective equipment (PPE).
